Dr Hemal Mehta is an Ophthalmic Surgeon who specialises in cataract surgery and medical retina conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
After reading medicine at Cambridge University in England, Dr Hemal Mehta carried out his clinical training at the University College in London. He completed 7 years of training in the London School of Ophthalmology, with 3 years at the world-famous Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he undertook rotations in all major ophthalmology sub-specialities. Dr Hemal Mehta completed an 18-month medical retina fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital, building strong research links in Australia. He was previously an Ophthalmology Consultant at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in medical retina and cataract surgery, as well as leading the retinal clinical trials unit.
The clinical research during his fellowships at Sydney Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, is the basis of his MD thesis on ‘Novel endpoints in diabetic retinopathy clinical trials’ registered at Cambridge University.
