Chatswood Private Hospital New Affiliation with The University of Sydney

On Friday 12th January 2018, Chatswood Private Hospital proudly became an affiliated Hospital of The University of Sydney and welcomed its first medical student the following Monday. This association has developed a great platform for a new sponsored registrar training program with the new HOYA lenses provided generously for the registrars training facilitation.

This affiliation is through the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School which opened in February 2011 with Federal Government support. It is the first fully-fledged private hospital clinical school in NSW and results from a partnership between the University of Sydney and Sydney Adventist Hospital. It is an inter-professional, multidisciplinary clinical school offering clinical training placements for medical, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and other allied health profession students.

The students experience clinical teaching in the consulting rooms of accredited specialists and surgical exposure at Chatswood Private Hospital. Many of our specialists both in Ophthalmology and ENT Surgery have academic appointments at the University of Sydney, many of them senior, while nursing is also included.

While the medical students initially are being exposed to Ophthalmic surgery we are hopeful of an extension to other disciplines and eventually to include nursing students in the future.

Testimonial from Medical Student: Georgia Shimmi (3rd Year Medical Student, Sydney Medical Program)

“As their first visitng University of Sydney medical student, I was graciously welcomed by the team and quickly made to feel at home. The team were lovely and willing to help where needed and I could see this same attitude directed towards patients 10-fold.

It was a fantastic experience – Chatswood Private Hospital is a wonderful environment and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been able to be a part of the team”.
