Presmed Australia (PMA), is a Sydney based healthcare company specialising in the establishment and management of Ophthalmic and ENT day hospitals. PMA is partnering with local Ophthalmologists and ENT Surgeons to open a new private Eye and ENT hospital in one of the leading greenfield sites in Chatswood, on the corner of Albert and Archer Streets. The new hospital will have 6 operating theatres, 1 procedure room, 14 first stage anaesthetic and recovery trolleys, 16 second stage day surgery recliner chairs and 4 overnight beds. Building works commenced in April 2014 with the hospital opening scheduled for January 2016.
PMA’s current Chatswood eye facility, Ophthalmic Surgery Centre (OSC), has been operational since 1997 and is a recognised leader in eye surgery with 37 Ophthalmologists operating at the facility. PMA’s other Chatswood facility, Sydney ENT & Facial Day Surgery Centre (SENT) was established in 1995 and has 15 ENT Surgeons operating there. SENT is the only dedicated free-standing ENT day surgery in Sydney.
“OSC was reaching full capacity so we needed to expand and develop a new private Eye hospital to cater to demand,” says Marc Resnik, Managing Director of PMA. “An exciting opportunity then arose for SENT to merge into the new Hospital to create Sydney’s leading Eye and ENT private hospital” Mr Resnik says.
“This is an exciting venture which will cement Chatswood as the leading destination for eye surgery and ENT surgery in Sydney, as well as setting a new professional benchmark for the Australian ophthalmic and ENT community. The new hospital will allow the integration of two complimentary specialisations providing Sydney’s only dedicated eye and ear private hospital,” Mr Resnik says.
The facility will be accredited to the highest quality and safety healthcare standards and be staffed by specialised ophthalmic and ENT nurses, Ophthalmologists and ENT Surgeons using the latest state of the art equipment and precision instrumentation.
“Eye Surgery and ENT Surgery is characterised by rapid developments in technologies which continuously improve patient outcomes,” says Roger Cronin, Chief Operating Officer of PMA. “The new Eye and ENT hospital will represent an unsurpassed level of care in Sydney and will provide local Ophthalmologists and ENT Surgeons with the latest technology to undertake the full spectrum of Eye Surgery and ENT procedures for both adults and children,” says Mr Cronin.
Mr Cronin says “one example of new technology being introduced to the hospital is Femtocataract Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery. The laser, guided by an advanced imaging system can create precise and reproducible incisions, automating steps of cataract surgery that have traditionally been done manually”.
Dr Michael Giblin, a Director of OSC and the Chairman of the Medical Advisory and Audit Committee, says “All Eye Surgeons operating at OSC are highly trained, well respected and experienced leaders in the Ophthalmic industry. The new private hospital, with the latest technology and equipment, will further enable Eye Surgeons to achieve the very best possible patient outcomes”.
Dr Martin Forer, a Director of SENT adds, “ENT specialisation at the hospital in combination with the availability of overnight beds will further benefit our patients and assist the ongoing attraction of leading ENT Surgeons”.
PMA also has Ophthalmic day hospitals in Sydney at Epping Surgery Centre and at Erina at Central Coast Day Hospital and is committed to delivering high quality care while making eye and ENT surgery more broadly available.
